Fenerbahçe thrashes Bodrum, advances to Turkish Cup quarterfinals
Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe thrashed Bodrumspor 2-0 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Turkish Cup.
Mbwana Samatta and Enner Valencia scored the goals as Fenerbahçe dominated the match from start to finish.
Fenerbahçe took the lead in the 20th minute when Samatta headed home a cross from Diego Rossi.
Valencia doubled the lead in the 35th minute with a powerful shot from inside the box.
Bodrumspor rarely threatened Fenerbahçe's goal and the Turkish Super Lig leaders cruised to victory.
The win sets up a quarterfinal clash with Sivasspor, who beat Antalyaspor 2-1 on Tuesday.
Fenerbahçe's dominance
Fenerbahçe was in control of the match from the first whistle and created a number of chances in the opening stages.
Samatta and Valencia both had good opportunities to score, but it was the Tanzanian who eventually broke the deadlock.
Valencia doubled the lead with a fine strike from inside the box and Fenerbahçe never looked back.
Bodrumspor's struggles
Bodrumspor, who play in the Turkish Second Division, were outclassed by Fenerbahçe.
The visitors rarely threatened Fenerbahçe's goal and were lucky to escape with a 2-0 defeat.
Bodrumspor's elimination from the Turkish Cup will be a disappointment, but they can take heart from their performance against one of Turkey's top teams.
