Bayern Munich crush Bochum in Bundesliga return, Kompany's Burnley held
Bayern returned to winning ways while Burnley and Vincent Kompany got off to a draw
FC Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga on Saturday, thrashing VfL Bochum 1848 7-0 at the Allianz Arena. The Bavarian giants, who had been held to a 1-1 draw by RB Leipzig in their previous league outing, were in ruthless form as they put seven past a hapless Bochum side. Kingsley Coman opened the scoring for Bayern in the sixth minute, before Leon Goretzka doubled the lead just four minutes later. Serge Gnabry made it 3-0 in the 36th minute, before Thomas Muller added a fourth on the stroke of half-time.
Bayern continued to dominate after the break, with Jamal Musiala making it 5-0 in the 60th minute. Substitute Sadio Mane then got in on the act, scoring twice in the space of three minutes to complete the rout. The win sees Bayern move to the top of the Bundesliga table, two points clear of Union Berlin. Bochum, meanwhile, remain in 17th place, just one point above the relegation zone.
In England, Vincent Kompany's Burnley were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford at Turf Moor. Ashley Barnes gave Burnley the lead in the 13th minute, but Joao Pedro equalized for Watford just before half-time. Neither side could find a winner in the second half, meaning Burnley remain in 18th place in the Championship, while Watford are up to 14th.
Kompany will be disappointed with the result, as Burnley had the better chances to win the game. However, he will take some solace from the fact that his team showed a lot of spirit and determination, especially in the second half.
