Ben Nelson signs for FC St. Pauli

FC St. Pauli has completed the signing of Ben Nelson from Union Omaha.

The 24-year-old defender has signed a contract until June 2024 and will join the club in January 2023.

Nelson is a product of the Creighton University soccer program and was named to the All-Big East First Team in 2020 and 2021.

He also helped the Bluejays reach the NCAA Tournament in 2020 and 2021.

After graduating from Creighton, Nelson joined Union Omaha in the USL Championship.

In 2022, he made 29 appearances for Omaha and helped the team reach the USL Championship playoffs.

Nelson is a versatile defender who can play at both left-back and center-back.

He is also a good passer and has a strong understanding of the game.

Nelson is expected to compete for a starting spot in St. Pauli's defense.

The club is currently in the 2. Bundesliga and is aiming to earn promotion to the Bundesliga in the near future.
