Conor McGregor: From the Octagon to Anfield?

The UFC superstar's lifelong dream of playing for Manchester United was almost realized with Liverpool.

McGregor's passion for football is well-known, and he has often spoken of his desire to play for his beloved Manchester United. However, it was Liverpool who came calling in 2006 when he was just 15 years old.

McGregor was invited to train with the Reds' academy after impressing during a trial period in Dublin. He spent a week with the club, playing alongside future stars such as Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan.

However, McGregor's football dream was not to be. He was released by Liverpool after just one week, with the club citing his lack of experience at academy level.

McGregor was devastated by the news, but he refused to give up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer. He continued to play for his local team, Lourdes Celtic, and eventually earned a move to Crumlin United.

McGregor's time at Crumlin United was successful, and he helped the club to win the FAI Youth Cup in 2007. His performances for Crumlin United earned him a trial with Hull City, but he was again released after just one week.

Disappointed but not defeated, McGregor decided to focus on his MMA career. He made his professional debut in 2008, and went on to become one of the most successful fighters in the world.

Despite his success in the Octagon, McGregor has never forgotten his dream of playing for Manchester United. In 2021, he even offered to buy the club for £1.5 billion.

Whether or not McGregor ever gets to play for Manchester United remains to be seen. However, his story is an inspiration to anyone who has ever been told that they cannot achieve their dreams.
