David Harris, Who Played Cochise in 'The Warriors,' Dies at 75

Character actor David Harris, best known for playing the chief of the Rogues in "The Warriors," has died.

Harris died on Sunday, April 10, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, California,

of natural causes, his agent confirmed to Variety. He was 75.

Harris was a character actor with over 100 film and television credits to his name,

including "Magnum, P.I.", "Quincy, M.E.", "Starsky & Hutch", "Barnaby Jones", "The Rockford Files," and "CHiPs.

But his most famous role was as Cochise, the leader of the Rogues in the 1979 cult classic "The Warriors."

Harris is survived by his wife, Joan, and three children.

In a statement, "The Warriors" director Walter Hill called Harris "a wonderful actor and a lovely guy."

"He will be missed," Hill said.

Harris was born in New York City in 1947. He began his acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows.

He got his big break in 1979 when he was cast as Cochise in "The Warriors."

The film was a critical and commercial failure upon its release, but it has since become a cult classic.

Harris continued to act throughout the 1980s and 1990s, appearing in films such as "48 Hrs.", "Running Scared," and "The Running Man."

He also had recurring roles on the television shows "Miami Vice" and "Knots Landing."

In recent years, Harris had largely retired from acting. He made his last film appearance in 2017's "The Last Ship."
