Harry Smith on Wigan Warriors' Grand Slam, England call-up and Samoa expectations
Wigan Warriors star Harry Smith has spoken of his pride at being part of the club's Grand Slam-winning team, his England call-up and his hopes of playing for Samoa at the World Cup
Smith was a key player for Wigan as they won the Super League title, Challenge Cup, League Leaders' Shield and World Club Challenge in 2022
The 23-year-old centre scored a try in the Grand Final victory over St Helens and was named in the Super League Dream Team.
He has since been called up to the England squad for the upcoming World Cup and is hoping to make his debut against Samoa in Newcastle on October 22.
Smith is eligible to play for Samoa through his father and says it would be a "dream come true" to represent the country at the World Cup.
"It would be massive," he said. "I've always wanted to play for Samoa. My dad's Samoan and I've got a lot of family over there.
"To get the chance to represent them at a World Cup would be a dream come true.
"I'm just trying to take it all in my stride and enjoy the moment. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to be here and play for my country."
Smith is one of a number of Wigan players who have been called up to international squads for the World Cup, including Liam Farrell, John Bateman and Bevan French.
The Warriors have a proud history of producing international players and Smith is determined to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before him.
"It's a great honour to be selected for England," he said. "There are some great players in the squad and I'm just looking forward to getting out there and showing what I can do.
"I know it's going to be a tough challenge, but I'm confident that we can do well. We've got a good team and we're all working hard together.
"We're all excited about the World Cup and we can't wait to get started."
