IKEA is investing 19 million euros in the modernization of its Dresden furniture store in Nickern. The redesign is intended to create a more customer-friendly and sustainable branch. Among other things, the lighting is to be converted to LED technology throughout the store, and a photovoltaic system is to be installed on the roof.
The work is scheduled to begin in June and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. During the modernization, the store will remain open. IKEA is investing a total of 500 million euros in the modernization of its German branches by 2023.
The Dresden IKEA store was opened in 1994 and is one of the largest in Germany. Around 450 employees work in the branch, which is visited by around 2.5 million customers annually.
The modernization of the Dresden IKEA store is part of the company's global sustainability strategy. IKEA wants to become climate positive by 2030. This means that the company wants to reduce more greenhouse gases than it emits.
The following sustainability measures are planned for the Dresden branch:
- Conversion of the lighting to LED technology
- Installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof
- Use of sustainable materials in the interior design
- Expansion of the range of sustainable products
