Labour MP suspended after punch captured on CCTV

Footage shows incident involving Grimsby MP Melanie Onn

Onn suspended from Labour Party and House of Commons

A Labour MP has been suspended from the party and the House of Commons after CCTV footage emerged of her punching a man.

Melanie Onn, the MP for Grimsby, was filmed hitting the man during an altercation in her constituency office on 20 June.

The footage, which was obtained by The Sun newspaper, shows Onn and the man arguing before she punches him in the face.

Onn has said that she acted in self-defence after the man became aggressive towards her.

However, the Labour Party has said that it is "deeply concerned" by the footage and has suspended Onn from the party and the House of Commons.

The party said in a statement: "The Labour Party takes allegations of violence and intimidation extremely seriously and has a zero-tolerance approach to such behaviour."

"We have suspended Melanie Onn from the party and the House of Commons pending an investigation."

The House of Commons has also said that it is "considering what action to take" against Onn.
