Why two Styrians climbed up a ski flying hill in firefighter uniforms – more than 1000 steps
Two Styrians climbed up to the top of Kulm ski flying hill in Bad Mitterndorf in full firefighter uniforms on Sunday. Their goal: to raise awareness for the "Firefighter Stairway Run" taking place in Graz in May.
The two firefighters, Mario and Manuel, started their ascent at 9 a.m. and reached the top of the hill two hours later. Along the way, they had to overcome 1,053 steps and an altitude difference of 160 meters.
The "Firefighter Stairway Run" is a charity event that takes place in Graz every year. Firefighters from all over Austria compete against each other in climbing the stairs of the city's Schlossberg mountain. The event raises money for the "Firefighter and Disaster Relief Fund," which supports firefighters who have been injured or killed in the line of duty.
Mario and Manuel's climb up the Kulm ski flying hill was a way to promote the "Firefighter Stairway Run" and to raise awareness for the work of firefighters. They also wanted to show that firefighters are not only there to put out fires, but also to help people in other ways.
The two firefighters received a lot of support from other firefighters and from the public during their climb. They even had a few people join them for the last few hundred steps.
Mario and Manuel's climb was a success, and they hope that it will help to raise awareness for the "Firefighter Stairway Run" and for the work of firefighters.
