The Secret Service agent who neutralized would-be Trump assassin Michael Sandford outside the White House has revealed how he locked eyes with the man before taking him down.
In an interview with The Washington Post, the agent, who has not been identified, said he was guarding the White House fence line when he saw Sandford approaching. He said Sandford was dressed in black and was carrying a backpack.
The agent said he immediately became suspicious of Sandford and began to follow him. He said Sandford walked past the White House and continued walking down the street.
The agent said he followed Sandford for about a block before Sandford turned around and looked at him. He said he locked eyes with Sandford and knew that he was about to do something.
The agent said Sandford reached into his backpack and pulled out a gun. He said he shouted at Sandford to drop the gun, but Sandford refused.
The agent said he then tackled Sandford to the ground and disarmed him. He said Sandford was taken into custody and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
The agent said he is grateful that he was able to stop Sandford before he could harm the president. He said he is proud of the work that the Secret Service does to protect the president and his family.
