Wieder zu null? Schmidt: "Zufall ist das nicht"
Pre-season was not as expected for SV Werder Bremen
Of course, pre-season doesn't mean anything. Nevertheless, the results of Werder Bremen in the friendly matches have not really inspired so far.
Of the six test matches, Werder only won one: against Drittligist VfB Oldenburg (2:1). Otherwise, there were three draws (against Twente Enschede, FC St. Pauli, and SC Paderborn) and two defeats (against FC Groningen and Hertha BSC).
Schmidt emphasizes the importance of training
Coach Ole Werner does not want to overrate the results of the preparation. "We're not going to let our heads hang now. We have a clear plan, which we're sticking to. The focus is on the training sessions, not the results of the friendlies," says Werner.
And yet, the coach also knows that the results are not completely irrelevant. "Of course, we would have liked to win more games. But it's more important that we implement the things we're working on in training," says Werner.
Schmidt: "We're on the right track"
Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder, also emphasizes the importance of training. "The results are not satisfactory, but we are on the right track," says Fritz.
Fritz is confident that Werder will be ready for the start of the season. "We have a good team and we're working hard. I'm sure we'll be able to achieve our goals," says Fritz.
Schmidt: "The team is still finding itself"
The goals for the season are clear: Werder wants to return to the Bundesliga. After the relegation last season, the club is determined to make a quick return to the top flight.
Coach Werner is confident that Werder can achieve this goal. "We have a good team and we're working hard. I'm sure we'll be able to achieve our goals," says Werner.
Schmidt: "We're not going to give up"
The start of the season is just around the corner. On July 30, Werder will play its first competitive game in the DFB Pokal against Energie Cottbus.
Werner is looking forward to the start of the season. "We're ready for the challenge. We're not going to give up," says Werner.
