Michael Parkinson is back, with an AI voice that can fool even his own family
The legendary broadcaster has teamed up with AI company Respeecher to create a synthetic voice that is so realistic, it can even fool his own family.
Parkinson, 86, retired from broadcasting in 2007, but his voice has been recreated using archive recordings of his interviews with some of the biggest names in entertainment.
The AI voice was created using a technique called "deepfake," which uses artificial intelligence to create realistic-looking and -sounding fake videos and audio.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Parkinson said he was "amazed" by the results.
"It's so realistic," he said. "I can't believe it's not me."
Parkinson's AI voice is set to be used in a new documentary about his life and career, which is due to be released later this year.
The documentary will feature Parkinson interviewing some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, and Dame Judi Dench.
Parkinson's AI voice will also be used in a new podcast, which will see him interview guests from all walks of life.
The podcast is due to be launched later this year.
