New Policing Model Welcomed in Downpatrick
Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has announced a new policing model for Downpatrick, County Down.
The changes, which come into effect immediately, are designed to improve police visibility and responsiveness in the area.
The new model will see an increase in the number of police officers patrolling Downpatrick on foot and by vehicle.
There will also be a dedicated team of officers responsible for community engagement and problem-solving.
The PSNI said the changes are in response to feedback from the local community.
"We have been listening to the concerns of the people of Downpatrick and we are committed to working with them to make their community a safer place," said PSNI Chief Superintendent Simon Walls.
"The new policing model will provide a more visible and responsive police service that is tailored to the needs of the local community."
The changes have been welcomed by local politicians and community leaders.
"This is a positive step forward for Downpatrick," said Downpatrick councillor Patrick Clarke.
"The increased police presence will make a real difference to the safety and security of our community."
The new policing model is part of the PSNI's wider commitment to improving policing in Northern Ireland.
The PSNI has been working to build closer relationships with communities across Northern Ireland and to make policing more responsive to local needs.
